Junior Chamber International (JCI) is a membership-based nonprofit organization of 200,000 young people ages 18 to 40 in 5,000 communities and more than 100 countries around the world.
Each JCI Member shares the belief that in order to create lasting positive change, we must improve ourselves and the world around us. Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, languages and professions. But what unites us is a desire to create lasting positive change in our communities.
Be Better
JCI Members seek ways to live out our slogan, Be Better. Meeting on a regular basis for fun and friendship, we run many inspiring events and projects with our members. As responsible citizens in a globalized world, JCI members take on the challenges around them through local development initiatives. These projects require members to use strategic planning to craft creative solutions to the problems in our communities. We seek better solutions to build better communities, creating a better future.
Local History
Our chapter was established in 1976, known then as the Coconut Grove Jaycees. Since its inception, our chapter has been recognized by the US Jaycees and Junior Chamber International on several occasions as The Best Chapter in the Country, The Best Chapter in the World, and the Most Outstanding Chapter in all of the Americas. In addition, the Coconut Grove/Miami Chapter has produced such leaders as Tom Gallagher (former Chief Financial Officer, State of Florida) and Alex Penelas (former Mayor, Miami-Dade County).
The JCI Vision: To be the leading global network of active young citizens.
The JCI Mission: To provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change.
